My post about the Golden Bachelor got lots of engagement and editorial commentary.
One friend thought it was a tad “judgmental,” which is probably true. I was in a cranky mood that day, having just been openly lied to by a Bumble dude. But that’s a topic for another blog.
Let’s talk about THE WOMEN who were just announced.
I see a few women of color, so that’s good, I suppose.
Where is the grey hair? (I see just a little.)
Who has a post-menopause belly?
Why are most of them retired from “girly” professions? Was that deliberate, or just a sign of the times? (I know many women in their 60s, 70s, and even 80s who are attorneys, doctors, financial services professionals, and technology executives.)
And although one might argue that black gowns are urban, elegant, and simple, they also give off a whiff of “funeral-ready” attire.
On the bright side (because I don’t want to be overly judgy):
Depicting women >60 as sexy and vibrant is a good thing.
I hope that ABC will show them eating carbs every now and then or letting their wrinkles and scars show on camera.
And yes…I’ve decided to watch it.
After all, I may ultimately turn out to be the Grandma Moses of social media commentary!
Speaking of which, my podcast (Geezer-Proof Your Life: How to Be a Bad-Ass >50) launches this fall. And you’ll be among the first to know!
