5 Things in NancyAF's Brain the Week of 7/13
I’ve been fretting over what to do with my Substack.
I suddenly had a flash of inspiration.
I always have random things floating through my head.
So, why don’t I share them with my readers and give them random things to think about, too?
Plus, I will include links to various sources so you can appear more intelligent.
It’s not one-sided. I’d love to hear your thoughts on these topics and suggestions for future ones. In fact, the first one was inspired by my friend Guy.
The “column” will be an assortment of the same things I talk about in my podcast…SEX, LIFE, & TECH… through the lens of someone who’s been on this earth for 69 years. (Sorry if you thought the reference in the title was to something sexier. But don't worry…the first item below relates to dating.)
GAME, as in “Does he have game?” This was prompted (as in human prompting, not AI prompting) by a conversation I was having with a male friend about how some men over 60 no longer have “game.” They are confused by what women really want these days. They’ve forgotten how to “woo” and seduce (assuming they once had those skills). Some are tired of working but have few friends or hobbies and dislike travel. They may have chosen to unplug from technology and current culture. I get it. It’s a personal choice. But I still have game and expect my man (and my girlfriends) to have it as well. It’s also about curiosity. Many people have become passive or argumentative. A fine line exists between having game and being Mr. Bossy Pants. You don’t understand my life? That’s fine. No need to be judgy about it! I’m sure many women exhibit the same tendencies (or variations on them). I’d love to hear some of your perspectives on this one!
PICKLES: One of my biggest clients when I had my agency back in NY was a pickle brand run by a fun and eclectic family. I got them into major media and sometimes even worked their events. I ran into one of the founders (who is now heading up the commercial side of the business) at the Fancy Food Show. It is still my favorite brand, and I’m eagerly awaiting the day they sell into Sprouts and I can buy them in Arizona. Aren’t these baby buckets the cutest?
CAFFEINE: I’ve discovered that I need at least a little of it every morning to jump-start my brain. Bones is my favorite brand. They just made me an affiliate, so you can try it too. The packaging makes me smile every morning.
BILLIONAIRE FASHION: A few years back, I wrote a blog about what the men at the Collision (innovative tech) Conference were wearing, so I was amused by all the reports of mens’ fashion hits and fails at this week’s Sun Valley gathering. It’s the rich geek version of the Met Gala.
69. Again, that’s my age. On my birthday, I launched my personal brand website…NANCYAF.com. I’m going to be getting back on the speaking circuit and offering workshops. I’ve finally grown into myself and am focused and unapologetic. I just finished writing a 30-page research report for a client and lined up 20+ speakers for a conference at Microsoft. Plus, I’m mastering relevant AI. So, if 69 sounds old and washed-up to you (as it apparently does to Mel), check your age bias!
When I wrote for my high school newspaper, my beat (area of expertise) was random facts. Good to see that part of me hasn’t changed much over 50+ years! A huge thank you to my big brother Andy (who was the editor-in-chief and who gave me that assignment!) Little did you know that you were contributing to many years of factoids and musings! Happy Birthday BTW!
Now, here’s that smart chart I promised. (I used AI to create it. See #5, above. It also created a very complex rating scale, which was not as visually appealing.) But if you want something that was likely human-created that goes into more detail, check out this link.
I love that chart so much! /Carol Cassara
